PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP: DISSOCIATION IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Prior to the international ESTD conference Dr. Renée P. Marks will hold a workshop in Debrecen.

Dr. Renée P. Marks is the founder of Integrate Families (www.integratefamilies.co.uk), accredited trainer of the ISTSS (International Society on Studies of Trauma and Dissociation). She has 39 years of practice in child psychotherapy. Her fields of interest are: early attachment traumas, complex traumatisation and the treatment of dissociation in childhood.

Within the scope of the Integrate Families, in cooperation with her two experienced colleagues, she works with adopting families and with adopted children who experienced early attachment traumas. She is a dedicated and well-qualified expert of this field.

We recommend this workshop for psychotherapists who work with children, as well as for colleagues and students, who are interested in early attachment traumatisation.

Art Therapy Workshop

“Self-awareness through the use of art materials and the creative process: An experiential workshop”

Liora Somer is an art therapist and cognitive-behavioral therapist at the Bani Zion Hospital’s Interdisciplinary Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Sexual Abuse, Haifa, Israel. For the past twenty years Liora has been specializing in the treatment of traumatized survivors of childhood abuse. She presents and teaches nationally and internationally, and has served for the last ten years as the chairperson of TDIL – Trauma and Dissociation Israel.

Programme

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media, images, and the creative process. Art therapists utilize client responses to the created products as reflections of the clients’ personality, interests, concerns, and conflicts. This workshop will demonstrate the sequence of client – art materials – creative process – product activity. Art therapy is not a means to enhance understanding of the clients’ inner worlds. Art therapy is also a therapeutic means of reconciling emotional conflicts, developing social skills, managing behavior, solving problems, reducing anxiety, aiding reality orientation, and increasing self- esteem (American Art Therapy Association, 2004). In this workshop participants will experience creative processes relevant to psychological assessment and psychotherapy through the use of different art materials in individual, professional and group settings. These processes will be discussed and suggestions for their implementation in therapy will be offered (Liora Somer).

Anna Bánfai, a clinical psychologist born and raised in Hungary and working in Melbourne, Australia for the past 30 years was trained in DBT in 1999-2000 by leading DBT figures from the US, Dr. Kelly Koerner and Dr. Alan Fruzetti, and in ACT by Australian Dr Russel Harris, the author of “Happiness Trap” in 2007.  She has extensive experience in using DBT and ACT both in individual and group therapy settings, with public and private patients, also providing consultations to staff in public mental health settings.

Programme

Linehan’s DBT and Morton et al’s ACT for BPD described in detail, including theoretical foundations, components and adaptations to various clinical areas.

Clinical demonstrations, role plays and small group discussions facilitating participants’ learning and experience.

The use of mindfulness and acceptance in clinical practice and daily life explored, with several mindfulness practices each day.
